Much imagination is required to grasp the concepts of GD&T. One must be able to visualize tolerance zones, imagine features expanding and contracting, "see" the components of a Cartesian coordinate system, and grasp how Datum Feature Simulators and Datum Features work together to constrain degrees of freedom during assembly processes.All attempts to explain the ASME Y14.5 and ISO 1101GD&T standards inevitably lead to a search for appropriate parts with which to demonstrate specific concepts. Although real problem parts abound, they are often too large, too small, too complex, or too perfect for effective demonstrations.
